Risk Identification and Mitigation from an Aviators Perspective
This presentation will offer an aviator's perspective on risk identification and mitigation. It will begin with a brief history of safety and risk management, starting from the earliest days of flying when most risks were managed at the individual pilot level, and progressing to the current era of regulations, technology, and established processes. The discussion will then delve into modern methods of risk identification and management, covering topics from a student's first introduction to aeronautical decision making to the various technological tools, federal aviation regulations, and company procedures that guide pilots in making sound decisions while managing risk. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the challenges facing aviation in the future, including the ongoing strain on the National Airspace System (NAS), aging aircraft, reduced production levels, and differing viewpoints on the number and proficiency of pilots in the flight deck.
